Patient’s details: Shaily Gaur (name changed)

Gender/Age: Female / 42 years

Patient joined Medical Yoga sessions for a special 7 day pain relief camp. She was asked to attend the sessions for 1 hour every day for 7 days. She was also asked to practice 1 asana at home 10 to 15 mints.

In diet she was asked to have 2 ‘Munakka’ (Abjosh) and white sesame seeds in the morning. She is also advised to use 1 pinch of Baking Soda for 3 weeks to control hyperacidity and reduce heat related issues in body.

Patient came with the complaint/s of
  • Pain in both knee joints
  • Swelling and pain in both leg muscles
  • Difficulty in bending both knees

Patient also had lower back pain and stiffness which increases with household work. Have complaints of hyperacidity, overweight and overall body heat, feels excessive tiredness and thirst all day. Fibroids in uterus. Gall bladder removed in 2010.

Clinical examination
  • Swelling on both knees anterior and medial aspects.
  • Stiffness in calves and thigh muscles.
  • Both knee joints shows osteo arthritis changes in examination.

Previous treatments

Allopathic treatment including
  • Pain blockers
  • Muscle relaxants
  • Antacids

Other treatments: Patient has taken physiotherapy, acupressure, ayurveda treatments at various point of time but had temporary relief.

Medical Yoga therapy: Then patient came to 7 days medical yoga pain relief workshop and after clinical check up & going through patient’s medical reports, medically modified asanas mentioned here were prescribed.

1. Alignment corrector stretch

2. Knee strengthening 1,2,3,4 with tool-1

3. Reverse Bhek with with tool 1 and and a pillow

Alignment corrector stretch: To restore the correct alignment of femur with tibia. This is to correct the weight bearing axis of the body and remove pressure on the inner side (Medical compartment) of the knee joint.

Knee strengthening 1,2,3,4 with tool-1: To improve the blood circulation to the knee joint. This also helped to stimulate the knee capsule from the posterior side and helped improving filtration of the joint fluid.

Reverse Bhek with with tool 1 and a pillow: To release the stiffness of the front thigh muscles (specifically Rectus femoris in the quadriceps group) to improve the range of motion of the knee as well as hip joint.
